i am fully prepared to get hate, threats, and butthurts from this post. and i will truly understand if a few of you are going to unfollow me if you have different opinions on this. that’s totally fine. but guys (and i’m not pointing fingers. this is from things i’ve witnessed on here)….
most of you out there are taking cosplaying WAY too fucking seriously. if someone is cosplaying your idol, but you feel they’re not “doing it right,” you get un-fucking glued. why would it matter she’s too short or too heavy set? or they’re not the right color for that character? don’t you think MAYBE they are already aware of that, and they’re just cosplaying this character because they adore them? and there are ppl feeling like they got raped in the mouth seeing ppl who aren’t the right shade of color of a certain character who put on make-up to look totally like them. i don’t think they’re being mean or trying to insult you… there are cosplayers who take the passionate of cosplaying, that they REALLY want to be that character. like that one guy who went through countless plastic surgeries to look EXACTLY like Super Man. crazy, yes. but it’s his passion and it what makes him happy.
i dunno. maybe i’m just being the dumb one here. but this was inspired by Rick Boer and his family as well as themewling-quim and the other victims out there who have been dissed on their wonderfully made cosplays.
calm down, guys.
don’t be a whore hole.
it’s just a hobby… okay?

Mary:Well this is all kinds of wrong.

Not sound racist, but…

stfuconfederates:

zorascreation:

I don’t date Muggles or Muggle-borns. It’s not racism, just a preference. I’ll date Half-bloods if they grew up in the magical world, though.

Is it true all Muggle-borns have longer wands?

It’s not MY fault Purebloods are naturally more powerful.

I’ve never personally experienced “Pureblood Privilege”, so it doesn’t exist.

How come you can call other Muggle-borns the M-word, but I can’t? How is that okay?

Purebloods suffered persecution from Muggles, but you don’t hear us complaining about it. Bootstraps!

I think it’s even MORE racist to assume that I have “privilege” because I’m pureblood!

ANYONE can be a Mudblood, not just Muggle-borns!

It’s not my fault Mudbloods often live up to the stereotypes!

Muggle-borns just happen to be more dangerous and prone to violence because they come from such un-magical backgrounds.

If you hate the Wizarding world so much why don’t you leave Hogwarts?

If a Pureblood calls you a Mudblood, it’s automatically racist? But you can call me a Bloody or a Death Eater and that’s NOT racist? That’s so unfair!

Words only have the power you give to them. Besides, Mudblood now means “friend” anyway, so there’s no problem with me using it! Mudblood Mudblood Mudblood!

How can I have pureblood privilege? I’m a Black wizard! You know the Wizarding world is Eurocentric. Wait…what’s intersectionality?

Best. Post. Ever.

Mary:

This was on that racism megapost I reblogged the other day, but this post is so good that I’m reblogging it specifically.

“These incidents may appear small, banal and trivial, but we’re beginning to find they assail the mental health of recipients.”

If white people would even admit any of the stuff on this list was racist my life would be easier.

http://www.olc.edu/~jolson/socialwork/OnlineLibrary/microaggression%20article.pdf

http://www.apa.org/monitor/2009/02/microaggression.aspx

I’m white and not only do acknowledge that all those things are racist but also super fucking douchy.

I’ve experienced…all of these. Wow.

Same, multiple times, since I can remember.  Honestly, especially when I was in school, I experienced at least one of these things almost daily.

=(. i’ve experienced just about all of these too, including this first one as an alien in our own land. i know so many Black people who are asked where they are from regularly by white people who for some reason can’t fathom we were born in the U.S. even tho many of our families have been here longer.

as for the criminality one, it would happen to me and my brother a lot, even when young. and we used to get so annoyed, we started doing shit like seeing old white ladies while we were in the car waiting for our mom, and lock the door really fast like we were scared and stuff. get back at em lol.

Experienced a lot of these myself. Sigh.

dear everyone ever,

butnotinlove:

Pointing out that something in the media is racist or sexist is not “ruining everything for everyone,” it’s drawing attention to the inherent prejudice that is engrained within our society in an attempt to make ourselves, and others around us, more actively aware of it. I am not content to silently accept discrimination or oppression in any form, so you can kindly stop telling me to “calm down and just enjoy something for once,” and back the fuck off.

*sigh* Here goes a rant :

AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER

WHAT A WONDERFUL SHOW RIGHT?

It has amazing numbers following it right? I wonder why?

Of course we have its amazing animation, moving musical pieces, well thought out story lines and just over all an amazing show.

But you know what Avatar did for me? What about it made it so life-changing?

The message. Not just one actually, but many wonderful messages.

This show is rooted way deeper in philosophy and morals than most shows and really tackled a lot of issues and handled them amazingly.

Avatar taught us that the right thing to do is help. Help people who need you. Never abandon them.

Avatar taught us that age and gender aren’t factors in your character. These things don’t limit you from being amazing and achieving greatness.

Avatar taught us that it doesn’t matter what others think as long as you are comfortable with who you are. Be yourself.

Avatar taught us that disabilities, aren’t really disabilities. You have to take your own outlook on it and turn it into an advantage. You’re only as weak as you want to be.

Avatar taught us to try and stay positive. Look at the silver lining and take a bite of the silver sandwich.

Avatar taught us that you can enjoy the simple things in life.

Avatar taught us it’s easy to do nothing, but heard to forgive and that revenge is not the answer.

Avatar taught us that we are all connected. All of us. This world. This life. This living breathing organism that is earth, we are all one. This whole universe. Even the animals around us do not deserve cruelty. ( Avatar even won an award for “Appa’s lost days”)

Avatar taught us that while violence isn’t the solution, you still need to fight for yourself and what you belive in.

Avatar taught us that love is hard, but it will find a way.

Avatar aught us that no matter how cruel or evil a person is… they are still a person. Every. Life. Is. Precious. And dishing out cruelty to cruelty will only result in a vicious cycle until there is a strength strong enough to break it.

Avatar taught us all these amazing, positive life lessons that honestly and truly changed my life. To live by these morals would mean living a life where you are in charge with surrounding yourself with positivity and reaching your aboslute best.

So please tell me.

How on earth we ended up with a fandom that is so hateful?

Sometimes I look around me and I am in shock that these are the people who watched the same show I did. I feel like if you didn’t grasp these lessons, then what was the point of Avatar for you? It’s not just an entertaining show. It was meant to be more than that.

And it makes me really really sad to think that the message wasn’t past along to the fans like it did for me. That something amazing was creaed, and people are too righteous to absorb them.

Spreading bitterness is not going to change anything. Dedicating anything, whether it be a day, a blog, or even TIME to hate is just kind of twisted. Why would you surround yourself with something so unhealthy?

There is a difference between distaste and hatred. Like my distaste for some parts this fandom. I’m not trying to spread word of ” THIS IS THE WORST FANDOM IT SUCKS BLAH BLAH” Im trying to spread word of “Why can’t we all just realize that what Avatar was supposed to influence positivety and love and that if we don’t like something, then leave it. Don’t surround yourself with something so dampening on your life. Go find something that brings light into your life and don’t poison others with your viscous hatred.

So while I am not spreading hatred at ALL, I am really not happy with this fandom. Therefore, I’m really considering following the advice from Avatar and leaving. There is just too much negativity and I don’t think its good to surround yourself with that.

And its sad…because Avatar and Korra IS what brings light and happiness to my life. I love the show, animation, the characters, the plot lines, the music EVERYTHING. I LOVE squealing over ships and reading amazing pieces of work and gawking at art and writing to my hearts content about something love so dearly.

So you can see where my conflict is.

So what I am trying to convey here…is why not just focus on what you love?

Lets do the Avatar franchise justice and be fans that follow the lead of the show’s core messages.

Please? For a fan who just wants to enjoy submerging myself in such a wonderful creation.

((Pretty much the most perfect post I’ve ever read.))

Mary: No. When there is racism in the fandom, when there is sexism, double standards, etc in the fandom I will not just stand by. Avatar was (partly) about rising against oppression (Katara fighting against Master Pakku for example) and when a bunch of people in the fandom decide to, say, whitewash Korra, it’s wrong. End of story.

Hey, I know this is “Korra Is Not Tan” but I found this and I just really had to say…”Mako Is Not Italian” - Mako isn’t brown but he sure as hell isn’t white.
Here was the artists discription/disclaimer on the post:
My “realistic” version of Mako, modeled after the handsome Brant Daugherty.
Drawn and colored in Photoshop 7.
P.S. STOP saying “whitewash” because you look stupid for accusing a minority of that. I AM Asian. Mako and Bolin look more Italian or Caucasian to me than they do Asian so SUCK IT. I’m pretty sure I can recognize my own race. ;] And I know whitewashing is wrong, but that isn’t what I’m doing. They don’t look ethnic to me, to an ethnic person, and if you can’t understand that then you are the one being intolerant. Think about it.
To the rest of you, I’m glad you like it. <3

Mary: Well look, internalized racism.
