I have just one or two questions. First, if this isn’t open to debate, why are questions allowed/answered? You have to be expecting a lot of hate/trolls/off-the-point topics/tone policing, all of which you expressively hate and arguably try not to deal with; so why? Secondly, are there programs to help raise awareness of whitewashing in physical communities that could fix the problem, and if not, how would one go about creating such a program? trblastingoffagain
There is a difference between a debate and asking questions.
When you debate something, there are two sides that are actually backed by some kinda source to back them up and not just personal opinion.
A debate would be like drug control where there are valid sides to both arguments.
Things like racism and racist acts are not up for debate. Because someone doesn’t mean it is not a valid point to discredit it. Neither are ‘lighting’ issues, or any of the other millions excuses we get on whitewashing. Ignorance of an issue like brownfacing or using racial slurs is not an excuse or a “debatable” argument. Saying it’s a joke is not valid. Saying it was for the lols (trolls) is not valid. Quoting Morgan Freeman is not valid when studies have shown his stance isn’t effective at all.
When (which they never do) come with sources, they are outdated where the stuff we use are current because this issue it just getting attention.
It’s been around so long that it’s ingrained in people’s heads as the norm when really, it’s wrong and needs to be corrected.
There is no valid side to any kinda racist act. Minor or major.
There is no valid side to children growing up hating their skin because they don’t see themselves in the things they watch.
There is no valid side to people who use skin lightening creams BECAUSE they hate their skin as adults.
There aren’t enough POC representation in the media today. There is no other way to say that or come to that other than to take a look through the tv and nod because it’s true. I say this over and over again when people point out that one black guy in the show or that one this girl or that guy. A sprinkle of pepper in a bowl of salt does not make diversity. Most of the shows have like a quota system or something where all white cast except that one POC character and no more. And even then, they are given a stereotype roll.
I don’t mind answering real questions. “What’s this called, how do I know if blank, What do I do if yadayada, do you have something for thisandthat, what do you think about subject x, Have you seen whatchamacallit and what do you think about it.”
I actually prefer answering questions to having to post all this stuff that just depresses me because I know I’m helping someone. I’m not making them painfully aware of how terrible this world can be is.
About programs, not that I know of.
Like I said, it’s not a new topic, but it’s not that old yet.
I’m not versed in starting programs but if there was a genuine interests in starting one, I know a woman who has started many non profit groups and I can forward the information.
